Carrie stares at Doug and Trish kissing.
Carrie turns and storms out the door.
The skies outside begin to fill with clouds.
ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
(muffled)
This is unbelievable! I've never
seen anything like it before in all
my years of broadcasting.
EXT. ASHTON ARMS - DAY
Carrie runs out the door down the street. There is the sound
of thunder.
It begins to rain.
Leonard runs out of the building and looks from side to side.
LEONARD
I don't see her. Where'd she go?
There is the sound of static.
LEONARD
Bob? I don't see her. Hey.
EXT. ROOFTOP - DAY
Agent Bob lies on the rooftop being soaked by the rain.
LEONARD (V.O.)
(static filled)
Bob... wher... fin..er...
AGENT BOB
Say again, Leonard. I can't
understand you.
He holds the radio in front of him.
The lights on the radio blink like a christmas tree.
Agent Bob frowns.
EXT. ASHTON ARMS - DAY
Leonard taps his ear.
LEONARD
Hello? Hello?
Leonard removes his earpiece and looks from side to side as a
hard rain falls.
People cover their heads and run for cover.
Leonard slumps his shoulders.
Leonard runs off in the opposite direction that Carrie ran.
The rain continues to fall.
INT. LEONARD'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Leonard, dressed in sweats and with wet hair and a towel
around his shoulders, walks through his apartment with his
cellphone on his ear. It is still pouring outside.
LEONARD
So, nothing?
SARAH (V.O.)
(muffled)
No, she hasn't called me, but I'll
let you know if she does.
LEONARD
Thanks.
Leonard hangs up his cellphone.
Leonard plops in his couch and looks like he's thinking.
There is the sound of a cellphone ring.
Leonard snatches his cellphone and answers.
LEONARD
Hello?
AGENT BOB (V.O.)
(muffled.)
Hi, this is Bob. I found our girl.
Leonard jumps to his feet.
LEONARD
Great! Where is she?
There is the sound of a doorbell.
AGENT BOB (V.O.)
(muffled)
There you go.
There is the sound of a phone hanging up.
Leonard gives his phone a confused look.
There is the sound of a doorbell.
Leonard walks to the front door.
Leonard opens the door, revealing Carrie, who is soaking wet
and looks miserable.
Leonard dashes to Carrie and takes the towel from around his
shoulders and puts it around Carrie.
LEONARD
Carrie! I've been trying to find
you? Come in.
Leonard slowly ushers Carrie into his apartment. Carrie
trudges along, her expression still miserable and eyes off in
the distance.
LEONARD
Sit down. We'll get you dried off
a bit.
Carrie, expression unchanged, sits down on the couch.
Leonard runs out of the room.
Carrie, expression unchanged, slides down sideways and lays
on the couch on her side.
Leonard walks back into the room with a stack of towels.
LEONARD
Ok, let's get you dried off.
Leonard sets down the towels and unfolds one.
Carrie lays motionless on the couch.
LEONARD
Uh, Carrie?
CARRIE
Urrrr...
Leonard sits next to Carrie and lifts her back into a seated
position.
LEONARD
Up, up, up. Here...
Leonard puts a towel over Carrie's head. Carrie sits
motionless with a towel over her head.
Leonard bites his lip.
LEONARD
Come on, you're not dead.
CARRIE
Yes, I am. I'm dead.
LEONARD
No, you're not.
Leonard puts Carrie's arm over his shoulder and stands her
up.
LEONARD
Stand up, time to get dry and warm.
Leonard half-drags Carrie towards the bedroom.
CARRIE
Urrrr... why...
LEONARD
Because friends don't let friends
get pneumonia.
Leonard half-drags Carrie into the bedroom.
INT. LEONARD'S APARTMENT - BEDROOM - MINUTES LATER
Leonard sits in front of his laptop at his desk. The rain
outside seems to be lessened.
The laptop screen shows a weather channel map. The five day
forecast reads "less rain" for tomorrow and "clear" for the
rest of the week.
LEONARD
Whew.
Carrie, dressed in a bathrobe and drying her hair with a
towel, exits the bathroom. She still appears sad.
LEONARD
Hey, how're you feeling?
Carrie forces a small smile.
LEONARD
That's a start.
Carrie plops onto the bed.
CARRIE
I can't believe I'm like this.
LEONARD
Why? You were dating and he
cheated on you, right?
CARRIE
Yeah, no, I don't know. We weren't
even dating dating, and I was going
to end it anyway.
LEONARD
So, I guess this takes care of it.
CARRIE
Yeah, but I'm still mad at him.
Carrie and Leonard make eye contact. Leonard looks confused.
CARRIE
I know, I'm lame, I have issues.
LEONARD
You think you have issues. At
least you've never jumped off a
fire escape into an alley.
Carrie seems confused.
LEONARD
I'll... tell you sometime. Long
story.
Carrie lays back on the bed.
CARRIE
I never thought I'd be like this,
but then I turned 30. And then, oh
hell, 35. Now look at me. I'm
old, no one wants me, and I'm
crying over some idiot who just
wants a piece of ass.
Carrie curls into a ball.
Leonard walks over and sits down next to Carrie.
Leonard gives Carrie a confused look.
Leonard takes a deep breath.
LEONARD
You shouldn't say that. You're a
beautiful girl and a great person.
Any guy would be lucky to have a
girl anywhere as nice as you. Doug
doesn't deserve someone like you.
He deserves exactly what he's
getting, which will hopefully
require a shot of penicillin.
Leonard gives Carrie an unsure smile.
Carrie stays motionless.
Leonard's eyes dart from side to side.
LEONARD
Uh, Carrie?
There is the sound of snoring.
Leonard stands and chuckles to himself.
Leonard wraps the blankets around Carrie, tucking her in.
Leonard smiles at Carrie, who shifts a little.
Leonard walks to the door.
LEONARD
Goodnight.
Leonard turns off the light.
