flannel shirt, sits in front of an old TV inside a log cabin
filled with wooden furniture. The TV shows, "Sportschannel
presents Rucker Streetball!"

On the TV, Bones dribbles the ball against an opponent.

DJ (V.O.)
(muffled)
Jimmy Bones Smith. What'd you got?

Bones fakes a pass, causing the opponent to take a step.

Bones brings the ball back, crossing over. The opponent
tries to recover but falls down.

DJ (V.O.)
(muffled)
Oooo! Somebody call an ambulance
for that man.

Bunyan picks up what appears to be an orange mini-basketball.

Bunyan makes a few crossovers, but they appear slow.

BUNYAN
From Oregon, the force of the
forest, the thunder of the
timberland.

Bunyan dribbles the ball off his foot. The ball goes flying
off to the side.

BUNYAN
Gah...

Bunyan chases after the ball, but stops.

Bunyan's dad stands with the mini-basketball in his hands.
Bunyan's dad is slightly shorter, but much larger than
Bunyan.

BUNYAN
Uh, hey dad.

BUNYAN'S DAD
Have you done your chores?

BUNYAN
No, but I was about...

Bunyan's Dad stares at Bunyan.

BUNYAN
Right away, sir.

Bunyan exits the cabin.

Bunyan's Dad tosses the basketball aside.

Bunyan's Dad sits down at a table and pops the top off a
glass bottle of soda.

Bunyan's Dad takes a drink. However, the soda bottle appears
smaller than normal in his hand.

EXT. BUNYAN'S CABIN - DAY

Bunyan stands behind a log cabin in the forest. Bunyan takes
an axe and chops a block of wood.

Bunyan sets another block of wood onto the chopping block.
Behind the wood is a basketball hoop set on a tree.

Bunyan takes a look at the basketball hoop. Then Bunyan
turns back to the block of wood and chops it.

Bunyan sets another block of wood onto the chopping block.

Bunyan takes the axe in his hand, but stops. Bunyan turns
and looks at the basketball hoop.

Bunyan looks from side to side. No one else is around.

Bunyan tosses the axe aside and picks up an orange mini
basketball.

Bunyan dribbles at the basketball hoop.

BUNYAN
Breakaway. The crowd's on their
feet.

Bunyan jumps up and finger rolls the ball into the hoop.

BUNYAN
And the crowd goes wild.

Bunyan raises his hands, as if pumping up the crowd.

Bunyan stops and looks up at the hoop. The hoop appears to
be four feet above his head.

Bunyan raises his arm, but his hand is still two feet below
the rim.

Bunyan picks up the ball and looks like he's thinking.

Bunyan steps away from the hoop and takes a few hard
dribbles.

Bunyan runs and jumps towards the hoop, raising the ball
above his head.

Bunyan dunks the ball through the hoop.

BUNYAN
Slam dunk! Posterized!

GRANDPA (O.S.)
Looks like you've got some bounce
in those legs, Paul.

Bunyan turns and sees GRANDPA (70), a little shorter than
Bunyan and walking with a cane.

BUNYAN
Grandpa! Hey, got any more
stories?

GRANDPA
Oh, I've got more stories than
you've got time. But finish your
chores, and I'll tell you about the
man I call, "Big Red."

BUNYAN
Alright! I'll be quick!

Bunyan runs back to the chopping block.

Grandpa laughs and shakes his head.

INT. BUNYAN'S CABIN - DAY

Grandpa enters the cabin. Bunyan's dad sits at the table
with a bottle of soda.

GRANDPA
Did you see that dunk?

Bunyan's dad barely acknowledges Grandpa.

BUNYAN'S DAD
Uh huh.

GRANDPA
Son, you know you can't keep him
here forever.

BUNYAN'S DAD
We all got out businesses to run.
Unless you've got a pair of hands
to spare, he's not going anywhere.

Grandpa turns from Bunyan's dad and frowns.

INT. BUNYAN'S CABIN - NIGHT

Bunyan and Grandpa sit in front of the TV, which shows
Streetball.

On the TV, Jerry passes the ball into the air. Priest
catches the ball and slams it through the rim.

DJ (V.O.)
(muffled)
Alley-oop! Priest still got some
hops in those legs.

Bunyan looks at the TV with excitement.

Bunyan holds the orange mini-basketball in his hands and
looks down.

GRANDPA
You want to try that someday, don't
you?

BUNYAN
Yeah, but... I'll never get out to
New York.

GRANDPA
Why not? I played there.

Bunyan looks up with excitement.

GRANDPA
Hey, I could play a little. And if
think that guy can jump, you should
have seen some of the boys when I
was younger.

BUNYAN
Wow, tell me more.

EXT. RUCKER PARK - DAY

Grandpa, years younger and dressed in an old basketball
uniform, dribbles the basketball on the court.

Players in afros wave their hands in the air.

GRANDPA (V.O.)
Those were the days. I remember a
guy who could put a penny on the
top of the backboard. Now he could
jump.

A tall player jumps and lays a penny on the top of the
backboard.

INT. BUNYAN'S CABIN - NIGHT

Bunyan, smiling from ear to ear, sits in front of Grandpa.

Grandpa looks from side to side. No one else appears to be
in the cabin.

GRANDPA
(hushed)
You know, you could really play
with those guys. Trust me on this
one.

BUNYAN
But I can't jump as high as them.
And they look huge out there.

GRANDPA
Bah, the TV adds a few pounds.
Seriously, though, if you learn how
play smart, you'll be fine.

BUNYAN
Smart?

GRANDPA
Like if you're chopping a tree, do
you hit the strongest one? Or
should you maybe look for one about
to fall.

Bunyan snaps out of his goofy smile.

BUNYAN
Chopping... Awww, I'll never get
there. What about the business,
and Dad.

Grandpa looks to the side and taps his fingers.

GRANDPA
It's getting late. You should get
some rest.

BUNYAN
Ok. Goodnight, Grandpa.

GRANDPA
Goodnight, Paul.

Bunyan exits.

Grandpa sighs.

Grandpa picks up a newspaper, which seems smaller than usual.

Grandpa flips to a page with an Train advertisement,
featuring routes to New York.

Grandpa looks like he's thinking.
