Playaz - Priest - Act 2

EXT. DARK ALLEY - MOMENTS LATER

Priest sits Jamal against a wall. Jamal seems jittery and
his eyes dart from side to side.

PRIEST
Jamal, what the heck are you doing,
man?

JAMAL
Come on, Priest, I just need some
green, man. You know how it is.

There is the sound of approaching sirens.

PRIEST
No, I do not know how it is. What
are you doing, man? You got some
brains and skills.

There is the sound of a radio squack.

DISPATCHER (V.O.)
(muffled)
One suspect has been apprehended.

Priest reaches for his radio.

JAMAL
Come on, man, I'm your boy. I was
just being stupid, you know. I
won't do it again. Come on, let me
go.

Priest looks at Jamal, who looks remorseful.

Priest looks up at the building. The two boys from before
peek out a window at Priest.

Priest turns around and pushes the button on his radio.

PRIEST
This is Priest, I have the other
suspect.

JAMAL
Aww, man, you'd do this to a
brother?

Priest spins back towards Jamal.

PRIEST
I'd do it to my own brother because
that's the law. Now, come on.

Priest grabs Jamal and pulls him to his feet.

Ice watches Priest from a dark alley across the street.
Priest leads Jamal down the street.

Ice frowns, revealing his stone-studded teeth.

INT. HIDEOUT - NIGHT

Ice enters a dirty gang hideout. Trash and debris are
scattered about and the walls are dirty and peeling. A few
gang members sprawl across several dirty couches.

Ice walks past a few gang members shooting dice against the
wall. The gang member are either really skinny or fat.

GANG MEMBER
Come on, come on.

The gang member rolls a seven.

The gang members cheer or slump.

GANG MEMBER
Easy money.

Ice walks to door guarded by two enormous gang members.

ICE
I need to see the Boss.

BOSS (V.O.)
It's alright, let him in.

The door opens and Ice walks through.

INT. HIDEOUT - BOSS'S ROOM - NIGHT

Ice enters a room that looks much like the room outside,
except that it contains a number of unmarked boxes and some
electronics equipment that looks stolen. Sitting behind a
desk is BOSS (40), 6-8 and well built, much like Priest.

BOSS
Hello, Ice. How was tonight's
venture.

ICE
Not good, they both got busted
before they could pass me their
merchandise.

Boss frowns and drums his fingers on the desk.

ICE
I think Priest busted one of our
boys.

Boss seems more interested.

BOSS
Priest, you say?

ICE
Yeah, looks like the big man can
still move.

BOSS
Interesting. Perhaps you two
should have a little conversation.

Ice smiles at Boss and nods.

EXT. THE CAGE - DAY

Priest, Bunyan, Pablo, and others play on the court.

Priest wrestles a rebound away from a player.

Priest passes to Pablo.

Pablo throws an alley-oop pass that Bunyan slams through with
both hands.

Bunyan and Pablo slap hi-fives as the opposing players slump
off the court.

PRIEST
Ok, who's got next?

Ice walks onto the court.

ICE
I got next.

All the players eye Ice.

BUNYAN
You play ball?

PABLO
Shouldn't you be in some crackhouse
somewhere?

PRIEST
Or in jail?

ICE
Whoa, whoa, players. I'm just here
to shoot some hoops, if that's
alright with all of you?

Priest, looking uncertain, bounces the ball to Ice.

ICE
Alright, let's play.

Ice dribbles the ball up the court.

Ice pulls up for a shot, but Bunyan blocks the shot. The
ball hits the fence and rolls down the court. Priest picks
up the ball, dribbles in and dunks the ball.

Ice posts up against Priest, who towers over Ice.

PRIEST
What are you thinking?

Ice defends Pablo, who dribbles the ball.

Pablo jab-steps, and Ice jumps to the side.

Pablo flips the ball into the air, and Priest catches it and
lays in the ball.

Priest posts up against Ice.

Priest holds up his hand and receives the ball.

PRIEST
Time to go to school.

Priest backs down Ice.

Priest turns, knocking down Ice, and dunks the ball.

PRIEST
That's game. Get off the court.
Come back when you quit dealing and
start playing.

Priest and the other players walk away from Ice.

Ice chuckles.

ICE
Not bad, but what else should I
expect from the, 'Black Hole.'

Priest spins and faces Ice.

PRIEST
What did you say?

ICE
I think you heard me, big man.

Ice begins walking off the court.

PRIEST
Hey, hold up. Where'd you hear
that?

ICE
If you wanna know, come back here
at 3am.

Ice opens the gate and turns back to Priest.

ICE
Alone.

Ice walks off the court and passes Bunyan on the opposite
side of the fence.

ICE
Good game, Paul.

Priest winces a bit.

Ice walks away as the players all watch him.

PLAYERS
Whoa, what's he talking about, I
don't know, you ever heard him
called that?

Priest looks at the ground and clenches his fists.

EXT. POLICE STATION - NIGHT

Priest leans against his police car parked outside the police
station. Priest takes a few deep breaths and looks at the
ground.

Cheryl walks up to Priest.

CHERYL
Hey, thought I might find you here.

Priest doesn't move as Cheryl leans against the police car
next to Priest.

CHERYL
The guys told me what happened.
You think it's him.

PRIEST
I has to be him, who else could it
be? He knows what he's doing.

Priest starts walking around his car.

CHERYL
But why now? Why after so long.

PRIEST
He know I want one more shot at
him. Maybe he's done hiding?

Priest walks to the driver's side door.

Cheryl runs and meets Priest at the door.

CHERYL
Maybe you should bring someone with
you. I know you were close before,
but...

Priest looks down at Cheryl.

PRIEST
I know you're trying to help, but
this is something I need to do
alone. I don't want to see you, or
the guys, or especially any cops
out there tonight.

Priest opens his door and enters his car.

CHERYL
But...

PRIEST
I'm serious, Cheryl. Please.

There is the sound of an engine starting.

Priest drives off as Cheryl watches.

INT. THE CAGE - NIGHT

The court is deserted and the lights are dark. The streets
are empty.

Priest, dressed in his police uniform, walks onto the court
and looks from side to side.

Priest looks at his watch. It reads 3:00.

BOSS (O.S.)
Hello, Priest.

Priest looks around.

PRIEST
I know that voice. Paul! Where
are you?

Boss, wearing a long coat, walks out of the shadows.

BOSS
I'm right here, little brother.
